who led the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in 2011-2012.

He is a member of Ticonderoga Lodge #1494.  He was President of the New York State Elks Association in 2009-2010.

His special interests are the Dictionary Project and Veterans programs.

New York's leadership is shared with the Honorable Bruce A. Hidley, Past Grand Exalted Ruler,
who led the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in 2022-2023.

He is a member of Watervliet-Colonie Lodge #1500.  He was President of the New York State Elks Association in 2007-2008.

Meet Our President

Michael Sage was initiated into Vestal Lodge #2508 on April 28, 2009. In June of 2009 he was sworn in as Inner Guard. From there he served three years as Lecturing Knight, followed by a year as Loyal Knight and then Leading Knight. In 2015, Michael was elected to Exalted Ruler and completed two consecutive terms. Following the completion of his terms, he was elected to the Trustees when he served for four years all as the Chairman. In 2021, he was elected to another term as Exalted Ruler. At the Vestal Lodge, Michael has chaired ENF, Government Relations, Lodge Activities, PER Association & Public Relations. He recently was appointed to Scholarship Chair and has been a long-time Chairman of Hoop Shoot & Major Projects. He also assisted with organizing and overseeing the 2016 and 2024 NYSEA Bowling Tournament hosted by the Vestal Lodge. He currently is assisting with preparing for the 2028 tournament. At the District level, Michael has served as Bowling, Camp Bristol, Hoop Shoot, Scholarship, Soccer and Youth Activities Chairman. He served as District Secretary from 2018 to 2025. In 2019-2020, Michael was given the honor to serve as the State Vice-President representing the South Central District. From 2020-2024, Michael served as the NYSEA Hoop Shoot Director. During that time, he had the privilege to see three National Champions crowned and met several wonderful families along the way. Michael then went on to serve as the NYSEA Lodge Activities Chairman from 2024-2026. Michael was installed as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler in Atlanta for 2022-2023. He has also served as a Grand Lodge Special Representative for Lodges requiring assistance on three occasions. He has had the privilege of attending Grand Lodge sessions in Indianapolis, Houston, St. Louis, Tampa, Atlanta and Kansas City. Over the years, Michael has received various awards at the Lodge and State level. He was awarded the Vestal Elks Officer of the Year Award for 2014-2015. He received the NYSEA Major Projects Committee Outstanding Support Award for 2018-2019 and the NYSEA Major Projects Committee State Vice President Award for 2019-2020. On July 23, 2019, Michael was unanimously voted to Honorary Life Membership by the members of the Vestal Lodge. Prior to Michael’s involvement in Elkdom, he served as a volunteer firefighter with the Chenango Bridge Fire Company from January 1996-December 2007. He participated in several State Fire classes and quickly received certification for interior firefighting. He received certification as a Certified First Responder and then as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He also served on the Board of Directors for five years, three of them as President. In his last year of service, he served as a Fire Lieutenant. He was made an Honorary Life Member upon leaving the Fire Company. Michael has been employed by the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board for over 25 years where he serves as a Regional Security Supervisor. Michael has been married to Staci since June of 2002. Staci has been a member of Vestal Lodge #2508 since May 24, 2016, and is the Office Administrator for the New York State University Police at Binghamton University. Their daughter, Julia, is a student at St. John Fisher University in Rochester where she will be entering the Wegmans School of Nursing Junior clinical class this Fall. They currently reside in Apalachin which neighbors the Town of Vestal.
